Our History

Church of the Resurrection began in 1987 when a number of parishioners left the Episcopal church with the Rev. Rocco Florenza because of theological changes to the prayer book and the issue of Woman's Ordination to the priesthood. They were not alone, as many other catholic minded Episcopalians left the Episcopal church at that time for the sake of maintaining the faith of the Apostles as received in the Churches of England. At that time Church of the Resurrection was with the Anglican Province of Christ the King and rented space at a local church. Later, through the grace of God and the kindness of some parishioners they moved into the current church building in Ansonia in 1997.

Since that time the church continued under the firm leadership of Rev. Florenza who wethered many storms and overcame a great deal of adversity in order to establish the parish.  He later became bishop of the Diocese of New England. In 2009 the church was received into the Anglican Catholic Church and Bp. Florenza continued as bishop of the diocese of New England, now called the "Diocese of the Resurrection".

The Anglican Catholic Church is the largest and most well established of the Continuing Anglican Churches, boasting provinces in the US, England, India, Africa, the Caribbean and South American.

Our Belief - The Nicene Creed

What we believe

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Our Mission

Our mission is taken from Isaiah 61.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor;he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,

and the day of vengeance of our God;

to comfort all who mourn;
